So, you're asking yourself, "Who is this Brock guy?". Okay, of course you aren't. But if you were, this video is a pretty good explanation. Despite the fact I'm presenting a largely new concept in front of about 700 people, that's pretty much the same dude you might cross paths with out in the wild who is also pretty much the same dude you run across out on the 'net from time to time.

I really enjoyed your presentation, Brock.  Can you put it in some context for us?  - ed

PS:  Glad to see you are eating well!  ;+)    Ha!   Me too!

Yeah Ed, the cycling has done wonders for my legs, but the torso is still good and plump.

Video context: Ignite Boise 7. More about Ignite Boise here:
http://igniteboise.com/about/

What I don't recall seeing in that page is that even is at the Egyptian Theatre in Downtown Boise, so there's a crowd of roughly 700 people. Also, there's a new Ignite Boise about every six months. Topics vary. Here was the speaker roster for Ignite Boise 7:

The first speaker is a creator of the Furby:

Hey Brock.

First chance I've had to watch this since you posted.  Enjoyed it a lot - both entertaining and informative, and it seemed like you got a good receptioon from the audience. Like I said ... not enough creat\ive folk in the world.

Ignite Boise looks like a really great initiative.  Some really interesting sounding topics on the agenda with you that night and I'll be following up an a few of them.

cheers, Robbie

Yeah, the Ignite Boise is great. It's about the friendliest crowd of that size one could ever see without them showing up just to see you. At an earlier Ignite Boise, a presenter got all nervous and totally dropped the ball. The crowd cheered her on and she finished up feet down. I've never seen that nice of an audience.

Keep in mind with my presentation that it's an "out there" concept, not because the idea is crazy, but rather it is radical in a contemporary setting. So, on one end I do shame people for watching crap TV, but on the other end they're laughing (mostly with me, but certainly not 100%) so there's some balance in there.*

I was really pleased with the presentation once I saw the video, technical error and all (those are common for Ignite Boise). I wanted to provide a humorous look at passive TV. It wasn't a goal, but after the video was watched, I noticed that I also managed to convey me to an audience of hundreds along the way. The presentation wasn't about me (that's not me), but I'm there.

I actually felt awkward about posting it up here as "Hey, it's me" but I figured Ed would get a kick out of it, so there it is. The big lesson I learned from putting the presentation together was that "radical" is simply deviation from the normal and expected. In a TV landscape where homicides and shots never lasting more than 15 seconds are common, passive TV is radical in an "aggressively passive" manner. It is aggressive too. There's no "yeah!" your way when you try to introduce this kind of programming.

* My friend Bob who likes Showtime's Dexter and makes money as a semi-pro musician said after I was done that he noticed that I made people around him uncomfortable by calling out True Blood and Dexter. I'm sure I did.
